£7,500 fine for Championship club after breaking FA rule

Queens Park Rangers have been fined a total of £7,500 after admitting a charge of failing to control their players. This incident came as a result of Fulham being awarded a 95th minute penalty last weekend, a game which QPR won 2-1 at Craven Cottage.

To be specific, FA Rule E20a states ‘failing to ensure our players acted in an orderly fashion’. Referee Lee Mason mentioned in his match report that he was ‘surrounded by three QPR players’.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s team held on for the victory after Sone Aluko’s last-gasp spot kick rebounded off the post. Incidentally, this was the second penalty that Fulham missed in the match after Alex Smithies denied Tom Cairney from twelve yards earlier on in the local derby. Highlights of the match can be seen in the video at the bottom of this article.

The Loftus Road club have since confirmed that they will be ‘making no further comment’ regarding the incident. After admitting the charge, the club were subsequently handed a £7,500 fine and were warned as to their future conduct.

Victory in the game meant that QPR ended a run of six games without a win and also jumped above Slavisa Jokanovic’s Cottagers in the league table as a result. It had been a troublesome week for the club in the build-up, after Hasselbaink was the latest name ‘stung’ by the Telegraph.
