Neil Warnock’s first Cardiff press conference: 5 key points

Neil Warnock was presented to the media today in his first official press conference since his appointment as the manager of Cardiff City. He has been in typical ‘good form’ and we’re going to cover the main talking points that the former Rotherham, Leeds and Crystal Palace boss had to say.

Warnock, who will turn 68 in December, sat alongside chairman Mehmet Dalman. Wales Online were present and produced a live blog of the quotes from the press briefing. Cardiff becomes Warnock’s 17th professional club as a manager.

As he held up for the usual photo shots of holding up the Cardiff City shirt, Warnock told the photographers to ‘make sure I’m holding it straight lads, get that shirt nice and clear.’

Warnock: Only needed one phone call to convince me to take the job

The new Bluebirds boss said that he received just one phone call from the chairman, who made it very clear that he was the number one target to replace the sacked Paul Trollope. He insists that was all the convincing he really needed, but said it was also a big added bonus that he enjoyed a decent rapport with the Cardiff supporters based on his previous trips to Wales,

“I got a call from the chairman and he said you’re our number one choice – that’s enough for me. I’ve always got on well with fans, that’s unusual for me. I always thought it’s a good challenge for me, they’re my kind of supporters.”
