Shrewsbury Town have confirmed that manager Micky Mellon has left the club by mutual consent, a role he had held since May 2014. Sky Sports understands he is now set to speak to National League side Tranmere Rovers over taking up that managerial vacancy.
It has been a disappointing start to the League One season by Salop, who are in the relegation zone and have collected just one victory in their last eight matches in all competitions. Mellon will now talk with Tranmere over becoming their next boss, a club he played over 100 times for in his playing career.
Shrewsbury released the following statement on their official club website this morning,
Shrewsbury Town manager Micky Mellon has this morning left the club by mutual consent.
Assistant manager Mike Jackson has also left the club while goalkeeping coach Danny Coyne will take charge of training and Saturday’s Sky Bet League 1 game at Bradford City.
The club would like to thank Micky and Mike for all they have achieved during their times at the club.
In 2015, Mellon helped the club win promotion out of League Two by finishing in the top three.
Although Tranmere Chief Operating Officer Peter Shaw has confirmed on Twitter that the club are still searching for a new manager and that Paul Carden remains in interim charge, it is highly likely that Mellon will return to Tranmere, only this time as first-team manager.
