Warnock to unveil international winger as first Cardiff signing

The Sun reports that Canadian international Junior Hoilett has become Neil Warnock’s first signing as Cardiff City manager. The winger is a free agent after deciding against extending his contract at Queens Park Rangers at the end of last season.

Hoilett, who turned 26 over the summer, is currently away with the Canada side as they prepare for their upcoming matches against Mauritania and Morocco. Warnock has previously managed Hoilett when both were at Loftus Road a few years ago.

Injuries have however been a problem for Hoilett, who has also played for Blackburn Rovers. He managed to play a total of 37 games for both club and country last season, but found it difficult to produce a run of games. Contract issues also meant he did not play too often as well. He would be out of favour at times, especially when it became clear he saw his long-term future away from the club.

Warnock was speaking earlier today at his official unveiling as the new Bluebirds boss that he was hopeful of adding a couple of new faces to his squad. He feels they are short in a few areas, with the winger position clearly being one of them. Although Hoilett is low on all-round match fitness, he is clearly someone who Warnock believes he can get the best out of. During his time at Blackburn, he earned a big reputation after breaking onto the scene in the Premier League. Warnock now hopes he will return to those heights in the remainder of the season.
