QPR must remember but not dwell on devastating defeats

QPR head coach Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has told the club website that his team must remember their recent defeats, but that they can’t dwell on them.

The R’s suffered their heaviest home league defeat of all time last week when they fell to Newcastle United 6-0, attracting the attention of the national press who criticised their lackluster performance. They then followed that up with another disappointing display against Sky Bet Championship front-runners Huddersfield Town and would later that week go on to crash out of the EFL Cup after losing against Sunderland, though that would have been expected due to them facing Premier League opposition.

Hasselbaink knows that the pain of those defeats may help drive his team on to do better as they will be keen to avoid another run of tough losses, but he also fears that if his team dwell on them this blip could turn into a bad run of form.

He said: “We are playing at home and we know what happened in our last home match in the league.

“We don’t want to dwell on that but we also don’t want to forget it.

“We want to make sure in this game that we get ourselves some joy and some pride.”

They have the perfect chance to turn this around when they face Birmingham City this weekend, though that will be a tough game, as Hasselbaink then added: Every Championship game is tough, and Birmingham is no different in this,”

“They have made a really good start. They play a little bit different to last year, so it is going to be an interesting game.”

“They are set up really well to be able to hurt other teams. They are in a good moment, a good place, and that helps them. In that aspect, it won’t be easy.”
