Plymouth Argyle will get promoted this time

Plymouth Argyle’s Craig Tanner has insisted to the Plymouth Herald that this season they will get promoted.

The Pilgrims suffered heartbreak after they reached the play-off final last season only to get beaten by AFC Wimbledon in the final, a crushing blow for a team that had been floating around the automatic promotion spots for much of the year.

Many teams who lose in the play-off final end up suffering a hangover the following season, fellow play-off final losers Sheffield Wednesday and Millwall have certainly been suffering from this, but Plymouth have certainly bounced back with aplomb. They currently sit on the top of Sky Bet League Two having got 18 points out of eight games and are two points ahead of 2nd placed Doncaster Rovers. They are currently on a six game winning run and will hope to make that seven in a row when they face Hartlepool United tomorrow, and the team are very confident of doing exactly that.

And Tanner is keen to get another win so they don’t suffer the pain of that Wembley heartbreak again. He said: “We have made it clear to the lads that’s not going to happen again.”

“Myself, Brunty (Ryan Brunt), Luke McCormick, Gaz (Gary Sawyer), G (Graham Carey) and Ossie (Oscar Threlkeld) have all said that.”

“We have said to them, we are not feeling like that again and there is no way we are going to let you feel like that.”

“So I think they are all well aware that is not going to happen.”
