Leeds United striker backs Garry Monk

He may not be a huge hit at Elland Road, but Leeds United owe a lot to the goals of Chris Wood this season.

The striker has a hit and miss relationship with the Leeds supporters, but he’s scored some crucial goals already this campaign.

And the New Zealand international has today come out in support of manager Garry Monk, and insisted that he has the full backing of the whole squad.

“In my opinion, there should never be any pressure on this manager,” Wood said in an interview with the Yorkshire Evening Post.
“He has come in and done a fantastic job and changed a lot of players and the backroom staff. We are trying a whole new philosophy.”
Results have improved in recent weeks for Leeds United, with three successive victories, but Wood insists that it will still take time for Monk’s philosophies to shine through.
“It is going to take time and we are building. We are far from the finished article, but we are certainly working towards it,” Wood said.
“It was never going to take two months of a season. It is going to take six months. But you want to see progress early on and that is what we have done and now we have to keep that going and add more ideas that he is bringing to us every week.”

Chris Wood has scored six goals in all competitions so far for Leeds United.
