Blackburn: Rovers record first win

Blackburn Rovers came from behind to win their first game of the season 4-2, at the expense of Rotherham United at Ewood park.

It was Rotherham forward Danny Ward who opened the scoring, after just twelve minutes. His and the Millers’ joy didn’t last long, however, as a stunning 20-yard curling effort from Blackburn’s Craig Conway drew the host level just eight minutes later.

Conway then turned provider in the 29th minute, cleverly feeding in former Middlesbrough forward, Marvin Emnes, who slotted home his second goal of the week to give Owen Coyle’s Rovers a deserved lead going into the half-time interval.

Straight after the restart, Ben Marshall made it three. The former Leicester City winger produced a fine curling effort from an angle to beat Rotherham Goalkeeper Lee Camp and score his first goal of the season.

Rotherham hit back and gave themselves hope with just seven minutes left. Danny Ward, again, was the first to latch on to a cross from Rotherham right-back Kelly before he headed past Rovers keeper, Jason Steele, to set up a nervy finish.

Those nerves didn’t appear to get to under pressure Rovers, however, as Sam Gallagher made absolutely sure of the points in injury time.

A good bit of play from Marvin Emnes was enough to beat Millers defender Kelvin Wilson before he laid it on a plate for the on-loan Southampton man to wrap up the points.
