Former Man United defender to join Blackburn

According to the Mirror, Owen Coyle has confirmed that Wes Brown is set to join Blackburn Rovers.

The former Manchester United and Sunderland defender was training with the club following his release from Sunderland at the end of last season, and the Blackburn boss has confirmed that they are looking into options with regards to offering Brown a contract.

Rovers currently find themselves rock bottom of the Championship, and are without a win this season following a disappointing 2-1 defeat at Leeds United last night.

“I’ve spoken to Wes a number of times over the past few weeks,” Coyle said.

“It was important that we got him up to speed in terms of fitness and he has now come through that process, so giving him a contract is certainly something we are looking to do.”

Wes Brown boasts an array of experience in the top division of English football.

He appeared 352 times for Manchester United after making his debut in 1998.

He owns a Champions League medal and a number of Premier League medals from his time at United.

In 2011 he moved to the North East to join Sunderland, and he appeared 87 times for the club.

Blackburn’s defence have been more than shaky this season, and the experience of a former Champions League winner could be exactly what is needed to tighten Rovers up at the back.
