Burton Albion: Key duo big doubts to face Fulham

Speaking to the Burton Mail, Burton Albion manager Nigel Clough has revealed that Lucas Akins has joined John Mousinho as being an injury doubt for tonight’s clash with Fulham at Craven Cottage. Mousinho hasn’t featured since August 20th, after injuring himself at Blackburn Rovers. Akins has been their top scorer for the past two seasons.

Akins has been an ever-present under Clough this season in a new-look right-wing-back position. Tom Flanagan and Callum Reilly are already unavailable for Clough, who possesses a fairly small squad, so they could be stretched for options when they take on Slavisa Jokanovic’s men this evening.

Former Sheff Utd and Derby boss Clough pulled no punches on the injured foursome, saying that he would be surprised if any of them were fit to take their part in the squad, although Akins and Mousinho will travel down to London with the rest of the team,

“I don’t think any of them will be OK for the Fulham game.

“John Mousinho is not too far away and Tom Flanagan is stepping up his work this week, but it will be too early to put them in. Callum Reilly is still coming back from the nasty dead leg he had which turned complicated, so he’ll be another couple of weeks at least.

“And Lucas Akins isn’t too bad, but I don’t think we’ll be risking him. I’m not sure yet, he’ll probably come with us and we’ll see how he is, as will John Mousinho, he’ll travel but they are probably unlikely.”

The Brewers look to continue their solid start to Championship life when they take on a Fulham squad who are hurting after losing their first league game of the new season at the weekend to Birmingham City.
