Leeds United want versatile former Aston Villa midfielder

Leeds United want to sign free agent Kieran Richardson according to a report from the print edition of the Sunday Mirror.

The Whites have invested heavily in their squad this summer but it is yet to work out for them after a disappointing start to the season has only left them with one win in five games which has put them 21st in the Sky Bet Championship.

And in order to try and improve their squad, they are now looking to the free agent market and Richardson is the man they want. The 31-year-old midfielder, who can also play in defence, was released at the end of last season by Aston Villa following their relegation from the Premier League and wasn’t signed during the transfer window. But with emergency loans being banned for this season, the value of free agency has risen and Richardson is now being linked with a move to Leeds.

With short-term loans being banned this season, the obvious benefit to signing Richardson is his versatility. Not only can he play as a left winger, he can also operate a central midfielder and as a left back. With him being able to play in all of these positions, he should be a very useful squad player for Leeds should he sign for them.

After starting his career with West Ham United, Richardson made the move to Manchester United and made his first team breakthrough there. He did have a loan spell with West Bromwich Albion while there but he left United in 2007 and joined Sunderland. Then he would play for Fulham and Aston Villa before being released this summer.
