Having been in the job since November last year, Dean Smith’s first transfer deadline day saw two new arrivals.
The first of which will be young left-back Rico Henry, signed from Dean Smith’s former Sky Bet League One side Walsall. At just 19 years of age, Brentford parted with £1.5 million for his services; a fee the Saddlers say could rise to £5 million, if additional clauses are met. The left-back has been touted as one for the future, although Smith will have to wait a while to see the youngster play for the Bees. The left-back dislocated his shoulder playing for Walsall against Oldham, after a “brave goal-line clearance”.
Having helped Walsall to a third placed finish in Sky Bet League One last season, Henry was named in the team of the year at left-back. With his first full season of professional football proving a huge success, Henry’s potential knows few bounds.
The other arrival for Dean Smith’s men comes on a temporary basis from fellow Londoners Crystal Palace. The 21 year-old winger, Sullay Kaikai joins the West London club for the rest of the season. Having scored 12 in 26 for Shrewsbury Town in last season’s loan spell, he impressed enough to make his debut for the Eagles in their Barclay’s Premier League game against Southampton.
The only other Deadline Day news came courtesy of a Ryan Woods contract renewal and the release of Emmanuel Ledesma, having signed on a brief non-contract deal. The Argentinian former Walsall and Middlesbrough attacking midfielder made just one appearance for the Bees, before moving to Greek side Panetolikos.
