Reading interested in York City’s mini magician

SkyBet Championship club Reading are thought to be interested in signing York City winger Aidan Connolly according to the York Press.

Scouts from The Madejski Stadium were present at The Minstermen’s fixture against Solihull Moors in The National League at a rainswept Bootham Crescent on Saturday.

York City won the game 4-0 with Connolly putting on a dazzling display of skill, pace and trickery in which he scored twice while delivering a corner kick onto the head of City striker Richard Brodie for the opening goal of the match.

The 21 year old Dundee born winger who can also play in a central attacking role joined York City on a two year deal in the summer. The player is rapidly becoming one of the hottest prospects outside of the Football League and has scored three goals in his first seven appearances for the North Yorkshire club. Should Connolly’s excellent form continue, it will not be long before six figure offers are made for the youngster and Jaap Stam’s Reading could lead the chase for the player.

Connolly started his career in Scotland with Queens Park before joining Dundee United with fellow teammate Andrew Robertson in summer 2013. The youngster made 35 appearances for The Arabs scoring two goals before being released by the club in January.

The winger spent the second half of last season at Scottish Championship club Raith Rovers before being snapped up by York City in the summer.
