Forest forward set for new long-term contract

Nottingham Forest forward Britt Assombalonga is set to sign a new contract with the club, according to the Guardian’s Daniel Taylor.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed fine early form in the Sky Bet Championship, scoring three goals in his first three games.

Since making the switch from Peterborough United in August 2014, Assombalonga has gone onto make 39 appearances, scoring 11 and assisting another. His spell at the club has been broken up by long-term injury.

Previous to that, The forward enjoyed great form at the Posh, scoring 33 and assisting five in 58 appearances for the club.

Forest have already lost one key player this window, with Chris Burke making the switch to recently-promoted Bundesliga side RB Leipzig in Germany.

Speculation was beginning to mount that Assombalonga could be departing the club, with Derby County a team being mentioned as a potential destination.

However, it appears that the club are keen to keep the forward by offering him a new long-term deal.

Forest have enjoyed a good start to the season, sitting in 7th place after five games. Their most recent victory came against Leeds United, with the hosts running out 3-1 winners.

The East Midlands side have also enjoyed victories against Burton Albion and Wigan Athletic this season. Forest’s next fixture is against Aston Villa after the international break.
