Colchester snap up Arsenal youngster in promotion push

Colchester United have bolstered their squad ahead of an attempt to return back to the Sky Bet League One at the first attempt with the signing of Arsenal’s Glen Kamara on-loan.

Kamara became the U’s second signing of Deadline Day after Tarique Fosu signed earlier this evening and, similarly to Fosu, Kamara will stay at the Weston Homes Community Stadium until January.

The 20-year-old began his career in England with Essex neighbours Southend United, before being signed by Arsenal in 2012.

His only appearance for the first team came in October 2015, a League Cup tie away to Sheffield Wednesday – just a day before his 20th birthday.

He made 10 appearances for the Under-21 side in 2015 and spent the second half of last season on-loan in Essex with Southend.

The Finnish international made six appearance for the Shrimpers and quickly became a fan favourite at Roots Hall with his touch-tackling and an excellent range of passing as Phil Brown’s side finished 15th in League One.

His six appearances for Brown’s team included 45 minutes in the Essex Derby at Roots Hall back in February.

Kamara had represented his nation at under 19 and under 21 level before being an unused substitute in the senior side’s friendly against Estonia in June 2015.

The youngster will pull on the U’s kit for the first time once he has returned from international duty with the senior side.
