Cardiff City are set to sign West Bromwich Albion’s Rickie Lambert on loan according to a report from HITC Sport.
The 34-year-old striker had only signed for the Baggies last season but he struggled to break into the first team. This was despite Lambert even trying a position change to central midfield to try and make sure he can get some more time on the pitch. The only time Lambert has made an appearance in the Premier League this season was a brief substitute appearance, though he get a start in the shock EFL Cup match against Northampton Town. And now to make sure that he can get some first team football at the tail end of his career, he is set to move on loan to Cardiff.
The Bluebirds have already let two strikers go in the last few days with Federico Macheda being released by mutual consent and Adam Le Fondre being loaned out to Wigan Athletic and now they are looking to replace those forwards. With Lambert having plenty of experience and having helped Southampton get promoted to the Premier League last season, it will be hoped that he can score the goals that get Cardiff promoted.
Lambert had been a journeyman striker for many years and played for clubs in the lower levels of the EFL for clubs such as Macclesfield Town, Stockport County and Bristol Rovers. This earned him a big move to Southampton and helped the Saints get a double promotion from Sky Beat League One to the Premier League.
