Blues Boss refuses offered loan player

Southend United boss Phil Brown has turned down the chance to have Elliott Lee return to Roots Hall on-loan.

According to a report from Southend Echo reporter Chris Phillips, Phil Brown denied Lee the chance to make a return to the seaside club.

The striker signed for Barnsley in June 2016 for an undisclosed fee after making just seven appearances whilst scoring only one goal in his four year spell with the Hammers.

Lee had two loan spells in the Sky Bet League One last season, with Blackpool and Colchester United taking the former Luton front-man.

Elliott scored twice for Southend’s Essex rivals but was unable to save them from relegation.

He first appeared for Southend in a loan move back in 2014, but he failed to make any appearances due to an injury picked up in his first training session with the Shrimpers.

Speaking to BBC Essex back in November 2014, Phil Brown said: “The paperwork was done at 9:30 on Friday morning.

“We started the session at 10:30 – and at five past 11 he pulled up with a hamstring injury.”

“It’s a real unfortunate situation. It sometimes happens in football,” said Brown. “We’ve had good conversations with the West Ham staff. It’s just a very unfortunate situation.

“It’s a real bad hamstring tear. He’ll be out for 10 or 12 weeks.

The Club agreed to mutually end the loan in 2014, however Brown admitted then that he would possibly revisit the opportunity to take him on-loan again.
