QPR defender completes permanent Barnsley move

Barnsley have completed the signing of left back Cole Kpekawa from Championship rivals Queens Park Rangers. He makes the move for an undisclosed fee, signing a three-year contract at Oakwell.

The 20-year-old will now compete with Aiden White for the left back role with the club, although the youngster is also capable of playing as a centre back as well. He made nine appearances in the QPR first team, although he did also have loan spells with Colchester United, Portsmouth and most recently Leyton Orient too.

Speaking on the news of his latest signing, manager Paul Heckingbottom believes he has added a player with a bright future to his roster,

“We have monitored Cole for quite some time now and I am delighted to bring him in. He’s tall, quick, strong, with a good left foot. He’s only young and that will help him fit into this group of players.

“He’s ambitious and wants to be here, that was key. He’s demonstrated all the ability and determination to be a Championship player and I can’t wait to get him integrated within the group, show him our system of play and get him out onto the pitch.”
Kpekawa also has four caps for the England Under-20 side, who are managed by Keith Downing. The Blackpool-born defender came through the ranks at Loftus Road before making his debut in a League Cup tie away to Yeovil Town in 2015.
