Brighton and Hove Albion in loan bid for West Brom defender

Brighton and Hove Albion have made a bid to sign West Bromwich Albion’s Sebastien Pocognoli on loan according to a report from HITC Sport.

The 29-year-old defender joined the Baggies in the summer of 2014 from German club Hannover 96 but has recently found himself frozen out of the first team picture and hasn’t actually featured in the first eleven since March. And now their head coach Tony Pulis is hoping to get rid of him and a number of other players before the end of the transfer window on Wednesday.

And it looks like there could be a new home just waiting for Pocognoli as well as Brighton are hoping to sign him on loan. While they already have a first team left back after signing Gaetan Bong from Wigan Athletic earlier in the summer, their head coach Chris Hughton wants to get some good competition and sees Pocognoli, who has plenty of top class competition experience, as the ideal man to make sure Bong does not rest easy in his spot.

Pocognoli, who has been caped by Belgium on 13 occasions, came through the Genk academy before switching to AZ Alkmaar in 2007. After a three-year spell there he returned to Belgium to play for Standard Liège and then made a switch to Germany to play for Hannover. After a year there, he went on to play for West Brom but has only made 21 appearances there in two years at the club.

He will hope to sign for Brighton in the coming days and make his début in the match against Brentford on the 10th September.
