Newcastle United: failed medical leaves Tiote transfer plans in limbo

In news coming through, the Chronicle Live are reporting that Newcastle United defensive midfielder Cheik Tioté has failed his Galatasaray medical, throwing his move to Turkey into a state of Limbo.

The 30-year-old Ivory Coast international arrived in Turkey to a hero’s welcome, the powerfully-built midfielder being mobbed when arriving at the airport in Istanbul. Now though, with the failed medical, it seems that his future is more than somewhat in doubt.

Whilst no official information has been released as to the reason behind the failed medical, the Chronicle Live states that “reports in Turkey are suggesting an unfavourable medical report stating issues with his left lateral meniscus” are the reasons behind the failed medical.

The two-time Belgian and one-time Dutch champion has been at Newcastle United since a near £3.7m move from Dutch Eredivisie side FC Twente Enschede at the end of August 2010 whom he joined two seasons earlier from Belgian side Anderlecht.

The Chronicle Live say that Tioté has no intention of seeing out his contract at Newcastle and in the Championship, going on to say that he “is also considering offers from the UAE, China and Russia.”

At this moment there is still no official comment on this story from Newcastle United themselves.
