Blackburn seal deals for defensive duo

Blackburn Rovers may have lost Shane Duffy to Brighton & Hove Albion, but they have swooped to sign defensive duo Tommie Hoban and Derrick Williams from Watford and Bristol City respectively.

22-year-old Hoban makes the move from Walter Mazzarri’s Hornets on loan for the remainder of the season. As for Williams, he pens a permanent deal from Championship rivals Bristol City, signing a three-year contract at Ewood Park.

Centre back Hoban was part of the Watford side which won promotion to the Premier League under now Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic. He has only made one appearance for the Vicarage Road club this season, that coming in the EFL Cup. The Irishman expressed his delight at moving on loan and linking up with Owen Coyle,

“I’m hoping to help the team as much as I can, I had a tough time last year with injuries and I was hoping to get back playing. To come to a club of the calibre of Blackburn is massive, I’m really happy to be here.
“Blackburn are a massive club, I spoke with the manager yesterday and he said good things to me and made it feel like I’d be valued here and that is certainly what I wanted. So I want to repay him by putting in some good performances and help the team get some big results now.”
“It is a massive club, I want to come here and work hard and do my best for the team and help us get up that table.
“I’m raring to go, I’m hungry and looking forward to hitting the ground running.”
The pair are eligible for this weekend’s home clash with Fulham and both could make their debuts.
