Leeds United: Whites set to miss out on South African Jali

Garry Monk’s Leeds United side are set to miss out on the signing of KV Oostende midfielder Andile Jali due to strict English work permit laws, according to South Africa’s Laduma.

Reports in Belgium earlier suggested that the Whites had targeted the wantaway South African international as part of Monk’s revamp at Elland Road.

But now it appears that South Africa’s Premiership Champions Mamelodi Sundowns are poised to make the move, as Leeds would struggle to obtain a work permit for the former Orlando Pirates star.

The report suggests: “Jali did speak to members of Sundowns’ technical team during his offseason break in South Africa, and it comes as no surprise that rumours of a return to Tshwane for the former University of Pretoria man are on the rise.”

Jali has been sidelined with injury so far this season but KV Oostende look prepared to sell the 26-year-old midfielder, if the right offer is made.

The international, who has won 33 caps for South Africa, still has two years left on his contract with KV Oostende and they are likely to want to recoup some of the £800,000 they paid for the player in 2014.

Jali has scored once in 65 games for the De Kustboys in his two-and-a-half years with the club, helping them to fifth place in the Belgian Pro League.
