Leeds United: imposing Beugelsdijk looked at – an insight

According to the Daily Mail Sky Bet Championship side Leeds United are interested in Dutch centre-back Tom Beugelsdijk who currently plays in the Dutch Eredivisie for Ado Den Haag.

Leeds head coach Garry Monk thinks that at 6ft 4in, Beugelsdijk has the combination of strength and size that will allow him to take the Championship in his stride, adapting quickly to what is a notoriously physical division.

Beugelsdijk came up through the youth ranks at Den Haag, moving into the first team set-up on July 1 2010. Two separate loan periods to Jupiler League side FC Dordrecht saw his gain vital first-team experience, the Den Haag-born centre-back playing 58 times for the second-tier side, scoring 6 goals and providing 3 assists.

He has made 88 appearances for current club Den Haag, scoring 9 goals and laying on 6 assists in two spells at the club. Sandwiched between these two spells, Beugelsdijk had a spell at Bundesliga 2 side FSV Frankfurt in a transfer to Germany that didn’t work out, scoring once in 27 appearances for the German side.

The Mail say that Leeds United “had the 26-year-old defender watched” in last weekend’s game, one in which he scored in a 2-1 victory over Excelsior.

If that’s the case, then what would the Leeds United observers have seen?
