Liverpool enter race for in-demand £7million Leeds defender

Liverpool have joined West Bromwich Albion and Middlesbrough in the race to sign up Leeds United left back Charlie Taylor. The Daily Star understands that several Barclays Premier League clubs are monitoring his situation at Elland Road.

The 22-year-old highly-rated defender is under contract at the Sky Bet Championship side until next summer, however it is looking increasingly unlikely that he is to pen an extension. He recently handed in a transfer request at the club, which was rejected.

Owner Massimo Cellino has been critical in the past of Taylor in any contract extension negotiations, but is adamant that he will not be sold. He has stated he would rather he left for free next summer than for him to leave for a large fee now.

Tony Pulis is a known admirer of the youngster and remains very keen on taking him to West Brom, despite the fact he signed Everton left back Bredan Galloway a few days ago. Still, he is lining up a £7million bid, but it would appear Jurgen Klopp and Aitor Karanka are among those are considering such an action. The left back spot at Liverpool has been under scrutiny for some time based on the performances of Alberto Moreno. Boro do have George Friend already at the Riverside Stadium.
