Didier Drogba reacts to Aston Villa transfer link

Didier Drogba has brushed aside suggestions that he is set for a move to Championship side Aston Villa. The former Chelsea striker, who currently plays for Montreal Impact, took to social media to express his mystery at rumours linking him to Roberto Di Matteo’s men.

The 38-year-old has been playing his football in Major League Soccer and has been since joining in July 2015. The former Ivory Coast international has scored eight goals for the club, and recent reports suggesting that he was closing in on a return to English football.

The tweet below revealed that Drogba is completely unaware of such rumours, and all but put to bed any suggestion of a future transfer taking place.

During his last spell in England, the ex-Marseille striker won four Premier League titles, four FA Cups, three League Cups and the Champions League in 2012, where he netted the winning penalty in the shootout against Bayern Munich. Dr Tony Xia has been very busy in providing funds for Di Matteo, who guided Chelsea to that European triumph, with new recruits. Adding Drogba looks all but impossible now.

Earlier today, Villa completed the signing of Leicester City right back Ritchie De Laet on a three-year contract. They have also been linked with a move for Tottenham Hotspur and United States defender DeAndre Yedlin.
