Journeyman striker goes on trial with Ipswich Town

Leon Best has gone on trial with Ipswich town according to a report from the Sudbury Mercury.

Most recently the 29-year-old striker was at Rotherham United but was released from he club after making 16 appearances and scoring four goals. He was unable to find a new team this summer but may be closer to one after he started training with Ipswich.

As part of his trial, he was named in the starting line up for Ipswich’s U23 match against Birmingham City and will look to impress the watching coaching staff in order to get a permanent deal with the club. At the time of writing, the game is currently going on and Best has made an impact by scoring, though the Tractor Boys are currently losing 2-1. He is also playing alongside other first team players such as Luke Varney, Paul Digby and Tommy Smith.

During his career, Best has featured for many different clubs, mostly at the Sky Bet Championship level. He started his career at Southampton and then had loan spells at QPR, Yeovil Town and Bournemouth. He’s also been contracted to the likes of Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers and had loan spells with Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County.
