Manchester United defender close to Reading move

Reading are close to completing a deal for Manchester United’s Tyler Blackett according to a report from The Sun.

In 2014, it looked like the 22-year-old defender could finally break into the first team under the then recently appointed Louis van Gaal, but he struggled then and was soon relegated back to the reserves. Last season he was loaned out to Celtic and he struggled there as well, meaning the Scottish champions weren’t willing to take him back.

And with Manchester United’s new head coach Jose Mourinho not having Blackett in his plans for this season, especially after the signing of Eric Bailly from Villareal, he is willing to loan him out so he can continue to get first team action. And he will be heading to Reading where he will be under the tutelage of famed former United defender Jaap Stam. Maybe now that he is linking up with a man who was part of one of Manchester United’s most feared defences, he can finally start to reach the potential he’s had for the last few years.

After an opening day win over Preston North End, Reading have struggled after losing to both Newcastle United and Wolves. They did however seem to get back on track by drawing with Brighton and Hove Albion.
