Derby County: Rams announce loan of Manchester United player

In news that was expected by some, Derby County have announced the season-long loan signing of Manchester United striker James Wilson according to the club website.

20-year-old Wilson, faced with fighting for game time against the likes of world stars such as Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, as well as Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, will drop down to the Sky Bet Championship for the second successive season to link up with Derby County.

Last season Wilson spent six months on loan at Sky Bet Championship side Brighton and Hove Albion where he notched up five goals in 11 starts for the south coast club, making 25 appearances in total for the Seagulls.

Rams manager Nigel Pearson is more than enthused at the opportunity to bring the highly rated youngster to the iPro stating:“We’re delighted to have agreed to bring James Wilson the club on a season-long loan. I hope that this loan deal will prove to be mutually beneficial for all parties and I would like to place on record our thanks to Manchester United for allowing James to join us. He is an energetic player who will add to our existing attacking options.”

Wilson does have pedigree in playing for the Manchester United first team, making a total of 20 appearances for the Old Trafford outfit and scoring four goals, including a brace against Hull City on his first-team début on game day 34 in the 2013/14 Premier League – a game Manchester United went on to win 3-1.
