Aston Villa set to bid for Derby County defender target

Aston Villa are set to make a bid of around £3 million for Tottenham Hotspur defender DeAndre Yedlin, according to The Telegraph.

Villa have been searching for a new right-back and have now turned their attention towards Yedlin, who looks likely to leave Tottenham this summer.  It is understood that a bid of £3.5 million is what will be required, with Derby County and Hull City bidding this amount earlier this week.

Yedlin, 23, was loaned out to Premier League side Sunderland last season and helped to keep the club in the league and avoid the relegation trapdoor.  Yedlin played often for Sunderland, making 23 league appearances for the club.  However Sunderland have a new manager and do not look likely to move for the USA international again.

The defender began his career in Seattle, and made 69 appearances for the first time before arriving in England with Tottenham in 2014.  Yedlin struggled to make an impact during his first season in London, playing once before being loaned out last season.

Yedlin has a lot of international experience for someone of his age, and is a regular in the USA starting XI.  The defender has 39 caps for his country, and was part of the squad that went to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Both Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier are ahead of Yedlin in the pecking order at Tottenham, so it looks as though he will have to leave the club if he wants to play first team football.

With Derby and Hull already bidding for Yedlin, Aston Villa will have a fight on their hands if they also decide to bid.  Hull may have the advantage also, at being able to offer Premier League football.
