Leeds United close to signing South African international but must sell players first

Leeds United are close to completing a deal for KV Oostende’s Andile Jali but must sell some players before finishing the deal according to a report from Belgian publication Voetbal Primeur.

It’s becoming increasingly obvious that Garry Monk wants a very competitive midfield in his team having recently completed the signing of Liam Bridcutt to add to Matt Grimes, Alex Mowatt, Kalvin Phillips and Ronaldo Viera who are all vying for a first team spot. And now he’s looking to add to that area after closing in on a deal for Jali who’s been at Belgian club Oostende for the last two years.

However while Monk wants to sign Jali as soon as possible, there are some issues that are currently blocking the deal from going through. Leeds want to sell some of the other midfielders they no longer want to use as first teamers, with older reports suggesting that it is Luke Murphy and Toumani Diagouraga that are heading towards the exit door, and they aren’t willing to finalise the deal for Jali until hat is sorted.

The 26-year-old comes with good pedigree having been capped by South Africa 15 times but both fans and the coaching staff at Oostende have been frustrated with his lack of consistency.
