League One side to offer new contract to goal machine striker

Sky Bet League One side Millwall are set to offer star striker Lee Gregory a new contract, according to The Sun (17th August 2016, Page 51). Rotherham United made their move for the 27-year-old over the summer, a move which proved unsuccessful.

That offer from the Millers led to rumours circulating that the former Halifax man had handed in a transfer request. Those rumours ultimately proved to be untrue. Nevertheless, Lions boss Neil Harris is prepared to hand a new contract to his forward so he isn’t at least tempted by any future offers.

The ex-Mansfield Town youngster fired in 27 goals last season as Millwall made their way to Wembley and the Sky Bet League One Play-Off Final. He didn’t take too long to get back into the groove this season, finding the net in the opening day victory versus Oldham Athletic.

Tuesday was a day to forget for Gregory and everyone at Millwall as they went down to a 5-1 away defeat at Peterborough United, a team performance that Harris described as ‘ridiculous’ and that the players ‘should be embarrassed’.

He’ll be hoping for Gregory to get back among the goals after two consecutive performances without finding the back of the net. This weekend, Millwall welcome Sheffield United to The Den.
