Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United battling for Birmingham midfielder

Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United are considering making a move for Birmingham City’s Stephen Gleeson according to a report from HITC Sport.

Since signing from MK Dons in 2014, the 28-year-old midfielder has really integrated himself into the Blues first team and is now a key player for them. He was also a regular for the team as they came close to the play off places last season, shocking the pundits who thought they were more likely to be fighting against relegation.

And his performances for Birmingham have been noticed and two Yorkshire rivals have registered an interest in him. While Sheffield Wednesday have already signed one midfielder this summer, Almen Abdi from Watford, he was more of an attacking midfielder and now reports suggest they are looking for a more defensive man after Sam Hutchinson returned to being a central defender. Leeds United had a poor start to the season after being comfortably beaten by QPR at the weekend and could only beat Fleetwood Town on penalties on Wednesday night and they believe Gleeson could help them control the midfield more.

However neither team are yet to make an approach for Gleeson and other teams may yet make a bid. More reports say that Reading are also interested and may look to pip the Yorkshire clubs to a bid.
