Sheffield Wednesday send hands off warning to Derby after Forestieri bid

Sheffield Wednesday have issued a hands off warning to Derby County after their £7m bid for Fernando Forestieri according to a report from the Sheffield Star.

The Rams are looking to make their first signing of the season after a summer of inactivity and looked to make a splash by making a large bid for Forestieri who was one of Wednesday’s stars of last season. But this report suggests that they have been told in no uncertain terms that he is not for sale and that Derby should look to other targets.

The 26-year-old forward only moved to Wednesday last season after completing a £3m move from Watford. But he instantly became a fan favourite due to his flair on the ball and scored 15 goals on their way to the play off final. And he looks like he will be carrying this form into this season after he scored the winner in their televised season opener against Aston Villa on Sunday.

Asked about the rumours last night, Wednesday head coach Carlos Carvalhal said: “I don’t know but Sheffield Wednesday is not selling any player. This is clear.”

“The chairman was very clear that he won’t sell any players. We are buying not selling players.”

Derby’s summer has been completely bereft of signings at the time of writing. There has been some interest in other players, most recently rumours suggested moves for Nahki Wells and Aron Gunnarsson were on the cards, but no one has signed on the dotted line for them yet.
