Benfica star set for Wolves medical

The Mirror understands that Wolverhampton Wanderers are closing in on the signing of Benfica star Anderson Talisca, with the Brazilian forward set to have his medical with the Sky Bet Championship side today (Tuesday).

Since Fosun International took over the club, they have already signed a handful of players that have connections with the Portuguese giants. Silvio, Joao Teixeira and Helder Costa have all joined Walter Zenga’s men in the last few weeks. Wolves look set to snap up the talented 23-year-old for £20million, beating off competition from Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

Benfica president Luis Felipe Vieira was present at the New York Stadium last weekend for Wolves’ opening day draw away to Rotherham United. He was seen alongside agent Jorge Mendes, who is said to be hugely involved in Wolves’ transfer dealings following the big money takeover.

Talisca, who has caps for the Brazilian national team at both Under-20 and Under-23 level, joined Benfica in 2014 and has since won two Primeira Liga titles during his time at the club. He is expected in England today, with the transfer most likely to be concluded in time for the weekend. The attacking midfielder hasn’t featured in the last few Benfica friendly games, or their Super Cup victory over Braga on Sunday evening.

Wolves head coach Zenga, a former goalkeeper for Inter Milan and Italy, was appointed to the job on 30th July, only a few hours after Kenny Jackett was dismissed. He certainly looks set to be active before the transfer window closes.
