Aston Villa: Serie A side take midfielder in potential €3.3m move

In news coming through via various sources, including media site Gazetta World, Aston Villa have struck an agreement with Fiorentina over the transfer of Colombian midfielder Carlos Sánchez.

The Colombian arrived at Villa just under two years ago in a reported £4.7m transfer from Spanish side Elche, signing up to be a Villan on a four-year-deal. In his 48 games for Villa since signing on from Elche the 67-cap Colombian international has appeared in 48 Premier League fixtures, scoring one goal and providing one assist.

At the time, then-manager Paul Lambert said of Sanchez’s capture: “We’ve beaten other teams to bring him here to Villa and I’m delighted as we needed someone of his ilk to come in. He’ll be an excellent player for the club.”

Gazetta World say that whilst the transfer isn’t fully finalised, “A deal for the midfielder is all but complete after the clubs agreed on a fee in the region of €2 million, although a further €1.3m could be owed in potential bonuses.”

Villa’s Championship campaign starts later today when the relegated side from the Midlands take on last season’s losing Championship Play-off Final losers Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough. Villa will have a hard 46-game season ahead of them, it also looks like they will be fighting it without the services of Colombian Sanchez.
