Trialist must prove fitness levels to be offered Bees deal

Brentford trialist Emmanuel Ledesma has been told that he must prove his fitness levels before being handed a contract at Griffin Park according to Get West London.

With The Bees on the verge of kicking off their new Championship campaign, manager Dean Smith is still unsure whether Ledesma has a long term future with the West London club. The Bees boss has admitted that based on the player’s current levels of fitness Ledesma will not be offered a contract with the club.

The 28 year old Argentine born attacking midfielder has spent a number of weeks training with The Bees and has featured for the club in pre-season friendly matches against FC Kaiserslautern, Peterborough United and Millwall but despite possessing plenty of technical ability Ledesma’s overall fitness is proving to be a barrier against a move to Griffin Park.

The midfielder has become something of a journeyman during his footballing career to date with the player having represented no less than 10 different clubs. Ledesma started his career as a youngster with Italian club Genoa before getting his first taste of English football during a loan spell at Queens Park Rangers. Loan spells at Italian clubs Salernitana and Novara followed while a duel ownership deal saw the player feature for Crotone before leaving Genoa.

Ledesma had a failed trial at Brighton & Hove Albion in 2011 before joining League 1 club Walsall on a short term deal. The midfielder helped The Saddlers secure League 1 safety prior to a return to his homeland with Defensa y Justicia. In March 2012, the player returned to The Bescot Stadium once again signing another short term deal with the club.

In summer 2012, Middlesbrough came calling for the player’s services and Ledesma made 64 appearances for the Teessiders during a three year spell with the club scoring nine goals. During his time at The Riverside Stadium, the player was loaned out to Rotherham United and Brighton & Hove Albion and Ledesma re-joined Rotherham United on a one year deal last summer but made just eight appearances for The Millers.

Brentford kick off the new campaign at Huddersfield Town on Saturday.
