Perhaps the most exciting new beginning in the Championship is occurring at Molineux this season, after Wolves were the subject of a multi million pound takeover.
The new owners have appointed Walter Zenga, a relatively unknown manager to Championship fans.
But what can he achieve with the Black country club?
Wolves have signed a number of foreign talents ahead of the 2016/17 season. They’ve acquired the signature of former Atletico Madrid defender Silvio, who has joined on a free transfer. The fullback has experience of playing in the Europa League, and has appeared in two finals, winning one. They’ve also signed Joao Teixeira on loan from Benfica. The 22 year old has appeared in the Champions League, and is an extremely talented winger, who will terrorise Championship defenders.
Club captain Danny Batth will be key to Wolves this season. The commanding central defender will want to improve on his form from last season, and help tighten up the defence. Striker Nouha Dicko missed the majority of last season with a serious injury, but is expected to return in the next few weeks and will be crucial to any success that Wolves will have. The new signings will all hope to make their impact, but it may take them a while to settle into Championship football.
It’s a very difficult one to predict. It could either go brilliantly for the club if their money is spent wisely, or it could become a massive failure and Wolves could become another club with hated owners. The talent that they’ve brought in certainly has what it takes to succeed in the Championship and I’m predicting a good season for Wolves. I don’t think they’ll be good enough to earn automatic promotion, but they should be challenging in the top six for sure.
