Rotherham United – season preview

After pulling off the great escape last season, Neil Warnock left Rotherham United.

Alan Stubbs has been appointed as the new Millers boss, but can he improve on last season’s 21st place finish?

Key signings:

Alan Stubbs has been a busy man this summer, as he attempts to build his own squad. Yesterday, he signed Jon Taylor from Peterborough, in what was a record fee for the club. The winger is quick, skilful, and has an excellent final ball, and could be an excellent acquisition for Rotherham. They have also signed Jake Forster-Caskey on loan from Brighton. The midfielder will hope to boss the centre of the park for the Millers.

Key players:

Goalkeeper Lee Camp had an excellent season last year, and was fundamental to helping Rotherham stay in the Championship. If he can continue that form, then it’ll help the Millers no end. Captain Lee Frecklington will also be crucial. He can score goals, assist goals, as well as having excellent defensive abilities. He is the all round package for a midfielder, and Rotherham fans will be hoping he’s on good form heading into the new season.

Prediction:

Rotherham seemed destined for the drop last season until Neil Warnock came along to save the day. Without Warnock at the helm, the Millers could struggle. They’ve certainly added talent to their squad, but the Championship will be even more competitive this season, and I think a relegation battle is on the cards.
