Ipswich Town

Ipswich Town – season preview

Ipswich have been one of the most consistent teams in the Championship in recent seasons.

Every year they seem to be either in the Play-Offs or just outside them, and last campaign saw them finish 7th.

They’ve got an abundance of young talent, but will it be enough to see them reach the Play-Offs this time round?

Key signings:

There’s been a lack of activity in the transfer market for Ipswich Town so far, bringing in just the one player. That player is Adam Webster, who has joined the club from Portsmouth. The 21 year old is an up and coming centre back, who could prove to be a big player for Town in the coming seasons. Another good bit of business done by the club is managing to hold on to young talents Teddy Bishop and Andre Dozzell, who had both attracted interest from Premier League clubs.

Key players:

The aforementioned young talent of Bishop and Dozzell could be crucial to Ipswich this season. Both players are extremely talented and have big futures ahead of them. Another player who will be key for the club is David McGoldrick. The striker has been an ever present in the Ipswich side in recent years, and a big season will be needed from the frontman if Ipswich are to succeed this year.

Prediction:

The lack of activity may worry Ipswich Town fans, but Mick McCarthy is an excellent manager who seems to know what he’s doing. His squad was good enough to finish 7th last year, and the young talent he possesses will only continue to improve. With the influx of top quality teams in the Championship this season, it may be harder for Ipswich to reach the Play-Offs. However, I’d expect them to be there or thereabouts again, maybe narrowly missing out on the top six for a second season running.
