Huddersfield Town have been less than impressive since their return to the Championship four years ago.
Yes, they’ve survived, but they’ve always seemed to struggle to make any real impact on the league.
Could this year be any different for the Yorkshire club?
Huddersfield have been extremely busy in this transfer market. A number of players have joined the club, as David Wagner attempts to stamp his mark on the team. Young midfielder Aaron Mooy has joined on loan from Manchester City, and will hope to continue his form from his time at Melbourne. Town have signed a number of players from Wagner’s native Germany. One of these players is a good quality central defender, who had spent years as captain of 1860 Munich. His name is Christopher Schindler, and he will be crucial to tightening up Huddersfield’s defence this season.
As is the case with all Championship clubs, to do well you need a top quality striker. In Nakhi Wells, Huddersfield have got that. He was the club’s top goal scorer last season, and will be hoping to improve on last season’s tally. Club captain Mark Hudson will also be crucial for the team. He’s a good defender, who will need to be on the top of his game if Huddersfield are to have a successful season.
There’s a sense of uncertainty around Huddersfield Town this season. A number of unknown signings have been made, and fans will be keeping their fingers crossed that it pays off. The Championship is stronger than ever this season, and I think Huddersfield my struggle to improve on last season’s 19th place finish. They should have what it takes to survive, but it won’t be a comfortable ride for the Town faithful.
