Wigan Athletic are considering making a move for Sheffield United’s John Brayford according to a report from HITC Sport.
The Latics have been trying to sign a new right back all summer and after scouting several players, they have now decided that Brayford will be their number one target for the position. They had previously been interested in the player back in 2013 when they were a Premier League team but were beaten to the signature by Cardiff City.
The 28-year-old defender has plenty of Football League experience, most notably in a spell with Derby County where he made over 100 appearances. He signed for the Blades after a successful loan spell and signing a player of his calibre was seen as a coup for the club.
While jumping back to the Championship may be attractive to Brayford, it’s still going to be tough to try and get him to the DW Stadium. He is much-loved at Bramall Lane and the fans would not be happy to see him leave, especially with the renewed optimism that they will be promoted this season. They will be extra keen not to sell as they only got him back from a serious injury earlier this season and will hope to get a full season out of him this year.
