Bradford City confirm signing of former Blackburn Rovers defender

Bradford City have confirmed the signing of Matthew Kilgallon, as officially stated on the club website.

The 32-year-old defender had spent the last three years at Blackburn Rovers where he made 64 appearances and scored two goals. However he was frozen out last season and only made 11 appearances, making his release at the end of the season inevitable.

And now Kilgallon has found a new club after he signed a one year contract with Bradford City. He will now get the chance to reunite with Stuart McCall, now the manager of the Bantams but was the assistant at Sheffield United when both were at the club.

Kilgallon will be able to bring with him plenty of Championship experience to Valley Parade having spent the majority of his career playing at that level. He came through the Leeds United academy and became a first teamer there after a brief loan spell with West Ham United before completing a move to Sheffield United. After leaving Bramall Lane in 2010, he signed for Sunderland but spent most of his time loaned out to clubs such as Middlesbrough and Doncaster Rovers. He then moved to Blackburn Rovers for three years before becoming Bradford’s eight signing of the summer this year.
