Newcastle United turn down offer for Ivory Coast international

Newcastle United have rejected a £1m from UAE club Al Jazira for Cheick Tiote according to a report from Sky Sports.

Al Jazira already have some big name players with Jefferson Farfan and Mirko Vucinic contracted to the club and are now hoping to add the Ivory Coast international to their roster.

But while they were willing to offer a big money deal to Tiote to take him to the Middle East, they didn’t offer enough to Newcastle to allow talks to begin. The £1m offer was seen as too low by the club’s management and they will have to return with a bigger offer if they want to sign Tiote.

It did seem as if the deal was serious for a while as Tiote was left out of the squad for Tuesday’s friendly against Southend United but after the breakdown of this deal, the midfielder has returned to training with the rest of the squad.

The Magpies have already got rid of a lot of their players following their relegation from the Premier League. Newcastle have raked in big money with Georginio Wijnaldum and Andros Townsend leaving for Liverpool and Crystal Palace respectively while Remy Cabella, Papiss Cisse, Steven Taylor and Fabricio Coloccini.
