Brighton refuse to loan out young defender

Brighton and Hove Albion have rejected loan offers from League 2 clubs for their young defender Rob Hunt according to a report from HITC Sport.

The 21-year-old defender is highly rated at the Seagulls after coming through their academy and was rewarded with a new one year contract earlier in the summer, though he is yet to make an appearance for the club. He has however been a regular for their U21 side and has been impressive for them.

And with teams in League 2 thinking Hunt will continue to toil in the developmental leagues, some of them made an offer to sign him on loan. Portsmouth, Cambridge United and Crawley Town are believed to be the teams looking to bring Hunt in on a temporary deal.

However despite their hopes of signing Hunt, who can play on both the left and right side of defence, on loan have been dashed after Brighton turned down their offers. He featured in all of Brighton’s pre-season games this summer and their head coach Chris Hughton has been impressed enough to think he has a shot of making the first team when the season proper starts.

Hunt may make his Brighton debut in the opening game of the season against Derby County.
