Galatasaray state interest in Forest flop Veldwijk

Turkish giants Galatasaray have stated an interest in signing Nottingham Forest’s Lars Veldwijk according to a tweet from As Marca.

After signing from Excelsior for a reported £2m back in 2014, the 24-year-old had a very poor first season in England after making 14 appearances and scoring no goals. This led him to being shopped out to Dutch club PEC Zwolle where he rediscovered the form that earned him a move to Forest in the first place where he scored 14 goals in 35 appearances.

This form has led some Forest fans to think that Veldwijk should be given another chance at the City Ground but he could be shipped out permanently after Galatasaray have been reported to be interested in him and could make a £3m bid for him.

However the current political situation in Turkey may put Veldwijk off a move to Galatasaray. 1000s of people are currently being arrested in the country after the military failed in a coup on President Erdogan and there are real worries about infringements on human rights and freedom of speech there right now.

If Veldwijk decides not to move to Turkey, there are other teams said to be interested in him. Earlier in the summer, there were reports that Celtic were weighing up a move for him and could make a bid soon.
