Sheffield United reject Birmingham bid for Adams

According to Sean Taylor, Birmingham City were the unnamed Championship bidder for Blades star Che Adams.

The young attacker is a versatile player who can fill in wide or behind the striker and has scored 11 times in his 46 appearances for Sheffield United.

He is blisteringly quick and as such would likely suit Birmingham’s counter-attacking style, and Birmingham likely see him as a Demarai Gray replacement.

The bid is thought to be around £1.2m but Sheffield United want around £2m if reports are to be believed, which may be a stumbling block.

There are reports that Newcastle are interested in the player but this is yet to be confirmed by the same source so those may be wide of the mark.

Adams is just 20 and if he can continue to improve £2m could look like a steal in two or three years, but he will have to make a step up to the Championship and deal with that first.

Adams was actually linked to giants Manchester City in January but nothing came of it, so he clearly has some pedigree at a higher level.

Birmingham are thought to not have a lot of funds available but this signing would indicate a change of plan from them.
