Sheffield United

Where are they now? – Sheffield United team of 2005/06

Nick Montgomery (Midfielder)

Another one of the icons of this team. He only left the club in 2012 after ingraining himself into Sheffield United legend and went down under to join the Central Coast Mariners, where he still is today as the captain. He’s also got his fingers in plenty of pies because according to his LinkedIn page, he’s a professional mentor, part owner of sports product company MP Sports and a god damned motivational speaker.

Michael Tonge (Midfielder)

You had to respect the Sheffield United midfield with Tonge and Montgomery in the middle. He is amazingly still going and in a reputable way too as he is playing for Stevenage after signing for them in 2015.

Keith Gillespie (Midfielder)

A decent signing that did his bit to get the Blades into the Premier League. I don’t really want to joke about Gillespie too much as during his playing career he suffered with a gambling addiction and recently featured on the documentary Bankrupt & Broke: When Celebs Go Bust. He now seems to make his money by making appearances at sports dinners. so at least it seems he has his life back on track.

Chris Armstrong (Defender)

Not to be mistaken with the Chris Armstrong who played for Sheffield Wednesday in the early part of the decade, which I did as a kid. He was forced to retire in 2011 due to multiple sclerosis but I have good news! He returned to playing football last year for Sunderland RCA, which makes me very happy.

Jonathan Forte (Forward)

Meant to be the latest bright young thing for United but it never transpired. He’s understandably still going, he’s only 29 after all, and has just signed for Notts County hoping to get them promoted.

Ian Ross (Midfielder)

We’re getting into people I’ve never heard of now. Sorry. And he’s not only still playing, you can likely see him play very soon as he’s still in Sheffield playing for, well, Sheffield FC!

Kevan Hurst (Midfielder)

We’ve basically got to the academy graduates who didn’t break through part of the article. Hurst was one of them and actually played against United last season for Southend but this summer signed for Mansfield Town

David Unsworth (Defender)

Ok, so I doubt you really want to know about this guy, I bet you want to forget all about him. Well suck it up, it’s been nine years. Unsworth is now a coach at Everton and was even the caretaker manager for their final game of the season against Norwich City, which they won 3-0.
