Bristol City and Reading joining race to sign Leeds United target

Bristol City and Reading are joining the race to sign Fleetwood Town’s Conor McLaughlin according to a report from the Blackpool Gazette.

The 24-year-old defender is coming off the back of a successful campaign with Northern Ireland where they got to the last sixteen of Euro 2016, the furthest they have got in an international tournament since 1958. And while McLaughlin was one of the lowest ranked players in the tournament, he impressed both in defence and attack during the tournament.

This has however created a problem for Fleetwood as several Championship teams are now eyeing a move for McLaughlin. Reports had already suggested that Leeds United were considering making a move for the full back, having already been interested in his compatriots Michael McGovern and Kyle Lafferty this summer, but now Bristol City and Reading have joined the race to sign him. Like Leeds, they were impressed with McLaughlin’s performances at Euro 2016 and are hoping to add him to their squads before the start of the season. However despite this interest, Leeds are still leading the race to sign him.

Going into Euro 2016, McLaughlin knew that he could play his way to a move away from Fleetwood, saying before the tournament that hoped to use it as a shop window.
