Aston Villa have received a a bid from Marseille to sign Jordan Veretout on loan according to a report from Italian publication Foot Mercato.
The West Midlands club were hoping that the 23-year-old was going to be a key player for them after he signed for a reported £8m from French club Nantes last season as part of the many players signed from that country by former manager Tim Sherwood who hailed him as one of the highest rated players in France.
However Villa fans never saw why he was so highly rated back in his home country as he never really impressed in the 25 appearances he made for the club and wasn’t able to stop Villa from being relegated from the Premier League in one of their worst seasons in recent memory.
But Villa may be about to get rid of Veretout, at least for a while, as reports suggest that Marseille are aiming to sign the midfielder on a season long loan. The French giants are looking to strengthen their squad this season and think that Veretout could back to what he was at Nantes if he returned to France.
Marseille are starting to make signing French flops into a trend as they’ve also been linked with Newcatsle’s Florian Thauvin this summer.
