Nottingham Forest told £6m rated striker is not for sale

Nottingham Forest have been told by KRC Genk that Nikos Karelis is not for sale according to a report from Belgian publication Voetbal Nieuws.

Forest made headlines when they made a bid that would break their current transfer record for the 24-year-old with reports suggesting that they made a bid of £6m. Their previous record is believed to be around £5m for Britt Assombalonga from Peterborough United back in 2014.

However despite being prepared to spend big money, it’s unlikely that Karelis will be playing at the City Ground anytime soon. Genk have told the club that they unwilling to sell for any fee as they aim to keep one of their star players around.

Genk had only signed Karelis back in January when he joined from Greek club Panathinaikos and went on to tear up the Jupiler League by scoring 10 goals in 18 appearances. Understandably, Genk are unwilling to sell someone has been in such great form for them and have now issued a serious hands off warning to Forest.

The East Midlands club will also be hoping to keep one of their star strikers this summer. They have rejected a £7m bid from Norwich City for Assombalonga, their current record signing, and will be hoping that the Canaries don’t come back with bigger bids to try and lure the forward away from Nottingham.
